Consideration of Appointments: Open Spaces Commission. | |||||
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION: | |||||
Make one appointment to a term expiring April 2020.
Make two appointments to terms expiring April 2022. |

Executive Summary: | |||||
The Open Spaces Commission consists of seven regular members all of whom shall be appointed by the City Council, except for designee from the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission serves as an advisory body on the acquisition, management, use, restoration, enhancement, protection, and conservation of open space land. There are currently three seats available. It is important to fill vacancies on Boards and Commissions quickly so as to allow the Commission to continue meeting on a regular basis. There are eight applications on file for consideration by the Council, they are as follows: Danny Barbee (new applicant) Jim Burton (current commissioner) Nancy Marie Evans (new applicant) Mark Loseth (new applicant) Jessica Simmons (new applicant) Kate Stanley (new applicant) Joseph Thomas (new applicant) Jack Welch (new applicant) In an effort to reduce exposure to personal information the applicant roster and applications will be submitted to the City Council separately. COUNCIL APPOINTMENT ASSIGNMENT: Mayor Evans, Councilmember Aslan, and Councilmember Odegaard. |

1) Appoint three Commissioners: By appointing members at this time, the Open Spaces Commission will be at full membership, allowing the group to meet and provide recommendations to the City Council. 2) Postpone the action to allow for further discussion or expand the list of candidates. |

The City's boards, commissions, and committees were created to foster public participation and input and to encourage Flagstaff citizens to take an active role in city government. | |||||

INFORM: The vacancies are posted on the City's website and individual recruitment and mention of the opening by Commission members and City staff has occurred, informing others of this vacancy through word of mouth. | |||||
