Mission Statement and Land Acknowledgment

 MISSION STATEMENT
 
A commission to foster support, respect, awareness and appreciation of diversity among all citizens of Flagstaff.
 
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
 
The Commission on Diversity Awareness humbly acknowledges the ancestral homelands of this area’s Indigenous nations and original stewards. These lands, still inhabited by Native descendants, border mountains sacred to Indigenous peoples. We honor them, their legacies, their traditions, and their continued contributions. We celebrate their past, present, and future generations who will forever know this place as home.
 
 
4. Upcoming Opportunities and Announcements
  • Asian American and Pacific Islander Proclamation read by the Mayor at the May 3rd Council meeting.
  • Update on the Alternative Response Model from Shannon Anderson

  • The Leadership group would like to know if members are interested in participating in a CODA Social Event.   
 
5. Public Comment

The Commission cannot act upon items presented during the Public Participation portion of the Agenda. Individual Commission members may ask questions of the public but are prohibited by the Open Meeting Law from discussion or considering the item among themselves until the item is officially placed on the Agenda. Each public comment or presentation will be limited to five (5) minutes.

A.   Working Group for the Indigenous Representation Project at Sawmill Multicultural Art and Nature County Park
 
 
Discuss who will represent the Commission on Diversity Awareness for this working group. 
 
B.   Proclamations Work Group Update
 
 
Review and approve draft Pride Proclamation to be sent to the Mayor's Office for consideration. 
Discuss who will be present to accept the Proclamation, virtually or in person on May 31st.

Jordan Hollinger - Associate Planner, Comprehensive Planning, City of Flagstaff
The new website provides background information about what the plan is and the process for updating it.
 
C. Flagstaff Public Libraries Anti-racism Committee
Felicia Fiedler - Discuss collaborating with the Diversity Commission and the Flagstaff Public Libraries Anti racism committee to talk about how we can better collaborate and talk about the best practices that they have come up with.
 
D.   Transition of the Commission Leadership roles 
 
 
The Commission will discuss the appointment process, timeline, and appointment term for the anticipated Leadership vacancy.
 
E.   CODA Regular Meeting 
 
 
Review the results of the email survey and discuss and vote on the new CODA Regular meeting start time, week of the month and day of the week. 
Review current Boards and Commission meeting calendar. 
Discuss transition to a hybrid format. 
Ensure all members are on board for the new meeting information and confirm commitment to attendance.
